The Los Carneros American Viticulture Area (“Carneros”) includes the southern parts of both Napa and Sonoma Counties. The 90-square mile area is located near San Pablo Bay making the region cooler and more temperate than its northern grape producing neighbors. The climate make this the perfect conditions for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. The afternoon breezes make the grapes struggle and retain moisture – this process deepens the character of the flavors.
The soils of Carneros are generally clay, providing poor drainage and fertility. This requires the grower to carefully monitor and maintain the vineyard’s health.
